When thinking about moving boxes, a standard, cardboard box is the one that will most frequently come to mind, but is it the best? We want your items to stay in the best condition possible, so let’s take a look at these two storage boxes.
Cardboard boxes are readily available and easy to store. They’re available at any type of hardware store or easily available around town. A positive to these boxes is that they are extremely easy to set up and take down, which is great for storing them for a future move or recycling them. Unfortunately they’re not the best option to keep pesky insects out of your things, but they’re good for short term storage.
Plastic bins are also a great option for moving! Clear ones allow you to see what exactly you packed inside, which comes in handy when boxes have been sitting in storage for months on end. They are also extremely durable and perfect for keeping bugs out of your belongings. Because of the lid shapes, the majority of these boxes were made to stack on top of each other so you won’t be concerned about making a tower of boxes as high as your storage ceiling unit allows. They are a bit more of an investment, but worth the extra dollars for your long term storage needs.
When it comes to sizes of boxes, there are a few things to take into consideration. Smaller boxes are better for heavier items. This is so that you are able to lift the boxes! A larger box is tempting to fill; however, save those for linens and pillows that naturally need more space for storage. Bonus tip: Store linens and pillows in a vacuum-sealed bag in order to keep them in good shape. Then place them inside of a box!
Which do you prefer to use when packing: cardboard or plastic?
