In order to store things safely in your storage unit, you want to think about the number of items and what type of items you plan to store.

Take a step back and go over the things you have collected over time.

Ask yourself some key questions:

Do you use it?

Is it helpful in your life?

Can you live without it?

Once you have answered these questions you can decide.

Keep it in your home, store it, sell it, or trash it!

Now it's time to get organized.

Create a list of inventories to check weekly or monthly of everything in the unit. It will help you know what you have stored. If you are utilizing your storage unit for business purposes, keeping a running inventory will assist in keeping track of what you may need to restock and when. Be sure to keep track of items that may expire if you choose to store them and keep them towards the front of your unit so they are easily accessible. Organizing your items into categories will also be useful to calm the clutter and give you peace of mind if you need to access something quickly!

Try stacking mirrors standing with protective layers between them, leaving a walkway down the middle of the unit so that you can easily maneuver through it when something needs to be taken out. When you are packing boxes, try using smaller boxes that are the same size rather than large heavy boxes that make it impossible to life them and possibly may cause items to be damaged if you need to stack the boxes on top of one another.

Remember when organizing, choose to go up with your storage so that you have room to safely get around. Using shelving units is a great way to utilize space and optimize the amount of items you are able to safely store. Remember to get rid of unwanted, damaged, or expired items regularly. Owning a storage unit is a fabulous way to store your treasures when you are not using them. However, keeping it organized will give you peace of mind knowing that you have not misplaced an item of value and that it is not lost under a pile of unwanted or damaged goods.

Organizing and decluttering your storage unit is not only important for the safety of your items in storage but is also important for your own safety. Improperly stacked boxes thrown every which way can be dangerous when you are trying to locate something on your next visit. When you are finished organizing your storage, be sure to give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done.
